When we came in to the class we started doing our Zoning In. The Zoning In number was 17 and we wrote a question about Spring. Once we finished it, the teacher came and checked it for us. After that, we read a book called Stellaluna. It was about a bat who had a growth mindset. She lost her mother and then she landed on a branch and found a nest with birds in it. She tried to train herself like a bird. In the end, her mother found her. After the story we wrote about how we made connections to Stellaluna. After Stellaluna, we wrote a paragraph about our opinion about something we think is either the best or the worst. After recess, we went to Mr. Mac's class and we did some math. The math we did was about taking away and adding. Then we did our journals after math. Lunch was an inside day so I went to the library and there were lots of games we could play there. In science we learned about food chains. Energy moves through food chains. An animal eats grass and then the animal that eats grass gets eaten by a secondary consumer. All food chains starts with the sun because the sun gives energy to the plants and the plants give energy to the animals. In health, we are working on a paper called 'I have trained my brain through practice'. Here is a video that we watched. Grade 3 has been really entertaining and fun!
We went to OWL for a field trip. We saw owls and eagles. We learned about owls. They are very quiet hunters because they have to catch their prey. They use their talons to grab their prey. When eagles flap their wings they go fast but when owls flap their wings they are slower and it is very quiet. You can't hear anything. You shouldn't hold owls because they have long talons and they are very strong. You shouldn't throw food out of the car window because an animal will eat and it will probably be an owl's food so when they try to catch the animal they can get hit by a car. You should always cut plastic rings that hold cans together because birds can get caught in them. We saw a barn owl named Sara. We saw one snowy owl. We saw bald eagles and a golden eagle. We saw a great grey owl and a great horned owl. It was a really good field trip!
When we came in we did some reading and questions on what to do when we are feeling frustrated or angry. We read a book about someone who was angry. It was called Crankenstein. We did a flap book about what we had connections with. We talked about what we have in common with Crankenstein and how we are different. We learned some new words and we had to write new sentences with them. In math we did counting by tens and decreasing number patterns. In PE we played with balls and then we kind of did bowling relays. After lunch we talked about different parts of the brain. We talked about how it stretched and whenever you learn something it gets bigger. In art we made cats peeking through and silly pumpkins. We also did flower and owl art before. So far grade three is really fun.
Today first we did Zoning In and then we did writing about what we are in the inside and the outside. Some people have peach skin. Some people have light brown skin and some people have dark brown skin. The most important part about you is what's on the inside. We learned more about our emotions. There's only one me. Nobody is the exact same as me. We are all different. Then we went to math and we did stuff with number lines. Then we finished one side of our homework. Then we took it and put it in our backpacks. After recess, we got our sleeping bags and blankets to lie down with. We got flashlights to help us read in the dark. Fifteen minutes went very quick. Then we wrote in our journals how learning more about our names and ourselves helps us to understand more about ourselves. Then we had lunch. After lunch we went outside and then we came back in. We did our planners and now we are going to do science and then we are doing health and career and then music. Grade 3 is a little bit hard but it's okay because we are learning lots of stuff.
The first thing we did today was plural nouns. A plural noun has a s or es or ies at the end. I was surprised when Mrs. Clayton pointed out that there was a mystery reader on the shape of the day. Rayan's mom read a Robert Munsch book to us. It was called Smelly Socks. It was a little bit gross because the girl did not take her socks off for thirty days. We had journals today and I wrote about what I think I'm going to do on the weekend. We had math and we did some decreasing patterns. We wrote about gratitude. I was the second or third one done. Gratitude is to appreciate everything you have. This afternoon we are going to have science. We are working on our owl projects. Christina and I were about the first ones done. Our project is about Screech Owls. Today was very fun!

We had such a fun afternoon to celebrate the end of our island survival unit and the end of the school year. Students worked on a variety of challenges in four teams of ten. We started with Canadian themed challenges and finished with relay races outside. What a fun time!
We are going to truly miss our students and look forward to seeing all of them in September. We hope that many will bring their little journals to show us and receive a little prize. We wish everyone a wonderful Summer!! Don't forget to leave a comment on the blog! |
